Founded by cellist-composer Anthime Miller in the summer of 2023, in collaboration with BAH film curator & producer Kate Stahl, RESOUNDING SILENTS is a bi-monthly series at Brooklyn Art Haus where a small ensemble of musicians live score classic silent films with new original music.
Originally conceived as an improvisers ensemble, RS has coalesced into a collective of musician-composers made up of artists with strikingly diverse skill-sets, all at different points in their creative careers.
Each film features a rotating “Chef” - a composer or composer team responsible for bringing an entirely new musical score to a silent film.
With this model, RS provides every ensemble member the opportunity to try new things, revisit old ideas, challenge themselves to think off the page, and most importantly to play with one another - all while bringing timeless and important pieces of cinema history to a larger audience.
