The Passion of Joan of Arc
Chef Glenna Cureton
A profound and haunting masterpiece "THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC," directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer in 1928.
Dreyer's film captures the trial and martyrdom of Joan of Arc with a stark intensity and historical accuracy that remains unparalleled.
Through stark close-ups and minimalistic set design, Dreyer focuses on the emotional and spiritual journey of Joan. Who is portrayed with striking vulnerability and fervor by Renée Jeanne Falconetti.
Accompanying this cinematic tour de force, is our new original score, composed by violinist-composer & Resounding Silents co-producer Glenna Cureton.
Drawing from a rich palette of musical influences, and her encyclopedic knowledge of sacred music, Cureton's score intertwines elements of Gregorian Chant, French folk music and contemporary classical influences. Through strained strings and sneaky woodwinds Joan’s emotional journey and the machinations of her captors are colored.
The powerful marriage of Dreyer's imagery and story telling with the evocative soundscape crafted by Glenna invite us to contemplate themes of faith, sacrifice, and the resilience of the human spirit. Resonating across time and space.
